Done being Polite

One week down, about 215 weeks to go, give or take a day or two.

And if that’s not enough to scare you, I don’t know what will.

I had been thinking I’ve got to mellow out about this election.

But then I went for a walk with my wife and sons.  While we were out, we ran into an acquaintance, a guy who lives in our little town who voted for Bush.

You’ve met the type, a lawyer with a little money, never really practiced law, but seems to dabble in a little bit of everything. I’m sure he thinks of himself as a moderate.  A Republican, but cool.  Not a Bush ranger, but a wannabe.

But in the space of a five minute walk he referred to Asians as “nips,” compared the deaths of more than one thousand

U.S.

soldiers to the traffic deaths on L.A. Freeways and said that racist discrimination against “Persians” and other Arabs was O.K.  Just to be sure we thought he was cool he went out of his way to point out that he was “pro-choice”, but then admitted he wasn’t too worried about who Bush would appoint to the Bench.

When I got home I took a shower.

That’s who’s backing Bush.  And he is probably right, he is probably one of the moderate ones.

215 weeks to go.  And I am done being polite.
